Botox is a purified protein that is able to relax and also sculpt muscles.
While the most common usage is to reduce the wrinkles of aging on the face, it is also able to re-sculpt certain areas of the body.
Botox is administered by Dr Roy Chio to the treated areas by the finest possible needle after application of local anaesthetic cream. Some patients feel a small ant bite whilst many have no sensation at all.
There is no downtime and patients can return to their normal activities immediately. Results can generally be seen after 2 days. Areas to be re-sculpted will generally a while more for results to be seen.
Dysport is an injectable treatment used for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. While made from the same neurotoxin as Botox, it is suggested that Dysport may be faster-acting and longer-lasting.
A difference is usually noticed within 3-7 days, with the greatest effect visible about 2-3 weeks after treatment. Each patient’s response may vary, but most patients experience the effect of the first treatment for 3-6 months. Repeat treatments may be required when the muscle actions return and wrinkles and frown lines begin to reappear.
Usually, the number of treatments can be indefinite. But because the smoothing effect of botulinum injections is not permanent, Dr Chio suggests that patients may need 2-4 treatments each year to maintain the effect.
